Scammers have been messaging island residents pretending to be family members and asking to borrow large sums of money, claiming they've been blocked from their bank account.
Police are asking the public to be wary when contacted out of the blue by a new number, and to ask a question only the genuine person would know.
If money is involved you should ask them to contact you using other means to check it's legitimate.
