Warning over adopting rescue dogs from abroad

Adopting a rescue dog from outside the UK carries serious risks.

That's the warning from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture which says the animals can come with behavioural problems and disease.
 
The majority of dogs coming from Europe have to be fully compliant with passports and vaccinations however a large number end up in the UK unlawfully.
 
Government vet Richard Ashworth says it's important to meet the animal first:
