A man described as 'violent' assaulted two Police officers last night.
Officers say they had a call from a taxi driver who was having a problem with a man paying for his fare, so they went to help.
When they arrived, the man in question assaulted the two police officers.
The authority says they're 'very grateful' the taxi driver helped the officers deal with the man until backup arrived.
The man in question - who was drunk, is in custody and is being investigated for numerous offences.
Officers added it's a timely reminder they support the taxi trade.
