A man who thought he was covered by his grandfather’s insurance is within a single penalty point of losing his licence.
Jaye Nicholas Martin Birchall of Ballalough in Andreas appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse this week.
He admitted driving without insurance, and prosecutors withdrew a second charge of failing to produce his insurance documents.
The court heard he’d been stopped by police in Glen Mona at 8.35pm on November 28.
The 22 year old thought he’d been covered under his grandfather’s policy on the white Renault van he used for work, but it later emerged he wasn’t.
After hearing it was Birchall’s third conviction in three years for driving without insurance, magistrates fined him £400 and ordered him to pay £50 costs.
They also imposed four penalty points on his licence, taking him to 11 – warning him one more motoring offence would mean he’d be banned.
