Scrapping universal child benefit will save money – but it’s not yet known how much.
That’s according to Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw whose department funds the handout.
Currently parents receive £20.40 per week for their first child and £13.50 for any others.
However government says this is no longer sustainable and will introduce means testing from April 2014.
Mr Robertshaw says it’s hard to tell what the savings will be at this time but that all social benefits must be more targeted:
