Select Committee to Look into Feasibility of Withdrawing Licence Fee
A Tynwald Select Committee will be investigating the BBC Licence and if the Island should continue paying for it.
Among those giving evidence to the committee will be the Head of New Media at the BBC Laura Ellis, MHK Adrian Earnshaw and the Director of the Communications Commission Dr Carmel McLaughlin.
The Committee was set up in November of last year to assess the feasibility and impact that withdrawing from paying the fee would have on the Island.
Chairman of the committee Graham Cregeen has said that the main aim of the investigation will be to see if Island residents are getting a sufficient return for the fee.
Currently the Island pay the same amount as the UK, but in return get significantly less back.
Todays hearing will give the Committee the chance to discuss the matter further taking into consideration the feedback from a consultation carried out before Christmas.
