Eligibility Criteria for FIS Tightened Up
Tynwald approved new measures last week, which will now see the criteria for receiving Family Income Support tightened up.
FIS is an income-related social security benefit designed to supplement the earnings of low-income families.
The move to tighten up the
eligibility criteria has come after it was deemed people who perhaps wouldn’t rely on it where benefiting from it, it’s also seen as a money saving measure for the Department.
The new rules now state that only those who qualify as an Isle of Man worker under Work Permit regulations can receive it, also Married couples without any dependent children will now be exempt, in the case of couples with dependent children one member must work a minimum of 30 hours a week.
The changes will be introduced from 6th April, however existing FIS recipients wont experience the change till 5th October.
