Treasury minister Alex Allinson says there currently two jobs for every person out of work on the island.
He faced questions in Tynwald this week about the growth of the island's economy.
Dr Allinson gave the figure when Onchan MHK Julie Edge asked if the Isle of Man was on track to hit three per cent GDP growth this year.
He said it was too early to predict economic growth, but other factors such as unemployment were encouraging:
