Truck driver fined over power line crash

A truck driver from Douglas has been fined after crashing into an overhead power line.

45 year old Marc Alan Phair, of Peel Road, brought the cable down after hitting it with a mobile cement silo that he was towing.

Police were called to Main Road in St Johns just before 11am on May 27 - they were forced to close the road whilst repair work was carried out.

Phair later admitted driving without due care and attention and appeared at Douglas Courthouse for sentencing.

His advocate told the court Phair had already paid the Manx Utilities Authority back for the damage caused and pleaded with Magistrates not to disqualify him from driving.

Fining Phair £300 Magistrates told him: "We are of the mind that you did make efforts to check the height of the vehicle."

Phair was also ordered to pay £50 in prosecution costs and handed three penalty points.
