The Treasury hasn't set any savings targets for government departments, according to Minister Dr Alex Allinson.
He faced a question for written answer from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper about efficiencies or savings targets within government over the last three years.
Dr Allinson said there'd been no such target set by Treasury - but each department was expected to stay within the amount given to it during the budget process.
But he added external consultants have been helping with a review of possible efficiencies and cost improvements across all departments for the past two years.
