The Department for Enterprise says it'll report back to Tynwald next year about a possible tourist tax.
This week, the court debated a motion from Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper calling for a surcharge on short-term accommodation - a number of destinations around the world have introduced similar measures.
But members voted to approve an amendment from Enterprise Minister Tim Johnston, who said his department is considering a tourism levy as part of the Island Plan.
The DfE will consult local businesses before reporting back to Tynwald next February.
