A patron for next year's Island of Culture celebrations has landed the UK's top job in film review.
Mark Kermode has been appointed chief critic for The Observer newspaper.
The paper is seen as the definitive voice on the British culture scene and is read by millions of people every week.
Mark is already a top name thanks to the BBC's film review show, various radio programmes and publications.
His latest appointment is now set to boost the Island's profile even further.
