A derelict beach hut at the end of Laxey promenade is to be given a second lease of life in a bid to boost footfall through the village.
Garff Commissioners has agreed to lease the building, which has fallen out of use, to seaside eatery ‘the Shed’.
The local authority had considered refurbishing the site to offer changing facilities, but felt allowing the business to expand was more likely to attract visitors to Laxey.
It’s estimated a full renovation of the building is likely to cost in the region of £30,000.
The Shed was one of two commercial parties which expressed an interest, when the local authority invited prospective tenants to come forward last year.
After ‘close consideration’ of each bid, the commissioners agreed to the Shed’s proposal offered ‘best value for the ratepayer’.
