Tesco Express refused alcohol license

Tesco’s plans to open a new Express store in Castletown have hit an obstacle after the company was refused a license to sell alcohol.

The supermarket was turned down in court recently when the application was refused after Castletown Commissioners objected to the plan.

Earlier this month, Tesco confirmed to 3FM that it was planning to open a new store in the Callow’s Yard complex in July, and said the license was important.

Castletown commissioner Alwyn Collister represented the board in court and said there were many reasons why the commissioners opposed the plans (see audio).
