A Freedom of Information request in the UK's revealed rails for a failed tram plan on Merseyside were sold to the Manx government for more than £200,000.
The Liverpool Echo says 700 rails were snapped up by Island taxpayers at a fraction of what they'd cost Merseyrail when the scheme was dropped in 2015.
Merseytram would have connect the city centre to Kirkby but the plan was abandoned more than a decade after the UK government approved it in 2002.
The newspaper's FOI request revealed on average, each steel rail cost the Isle of Man £285.
