Suspended sentence for mother who ignored drug stash

A mother who “turned a blind eye” to her boyfriend storing Class A drugs in her home has been given a suspended prison sentence.

29-year-old Katie Blaymire was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse yesterday after previously admitting knowingly permitting the supply of cocaine from her flat.

Police raided her property in Douglas on August 5^th – they found a suitcase in her wardrobe which contained a shoebox, in it was five packages of white powder.

Associated drug paraphernalia was also found in a drawer in the bedroom – the powder was tested and found to be cocaine with a street value of over £7,500.

Her advocate told the court she’d noticed the suitcase but didn’t have the courage to report it adding she had no active role in supplying the drug and didn’t gain financially.

He described her as “naive” and said she was ashamed of her behaviour and had now “well and truly learnt her lesson”.

Sentencing her to 22 months, suspended for two years, Deemster Montgomerie said she’d placed her children at risk by allowing the drugs in her home.

Blaymire, who admitted a second charge of possessing cannabis, was also ordered to pay £500 in prosecution costs.
