A Douglas man’s been spared a jail term after assaulting and resisting police officers.
Christopher McEvoy of James Street appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas Courthouse for sentencing.
He’d pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage to a police cell and one each of assault with intent to resist arrest and resisting officers in the execution of their duties.
The court heard the 56 year old banged his head and smeared blood on the walls of two cells at police headquarters, and inflicted a cut lip when he hit a police officer in the face.
His advocate told the court McEvoy had a serious alcohol problem but had now sought professional help.
Mr Arrowsmith imposed a total of 20 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, fined McEvoy £100 and ordered him to pay £400 in compensation and £200 in costs.
