A local beach cleaning group has made an unusual discovery on the Island’s beaches – hundreds of potatoes.
Since Monday Beach Buddies volunteers have found numerous potatoes washed up on the beaches in the north.
The group says it believes the vegetable has washed up after the heavy rain – possibly as a result of a potato field flooding or cargo being lost overboard in the Irish Sea.
The potatoes are rotten from being in the water but volunteers say they will leave them on the beaches as they appear to be providing food for seabirds and other small animals.
