Steam Packet Workers to Remind Public What They Stand to Lose

Steam Packet Workers Union Take to Streets to Raise Awareness to Dangers Mezeron Competition Poses to Future of the Company

The unions who represent Steam Packet workers will be out in force today raising awareness to the possible knocks ons to both jobs for workers and services for the public the Mezeron freight competition could have.

Nautilus, the RMT and Unite will be outside Tesco from 11am handing out flyers and answering any questions the public may have.

Despite assurances that there would be no immediate knock ons its feared that if the competition intensifies and more customers move to Mezeron there could be job losses and significant cut backs to passenger services.

As it stands the Steam Packet employ 450 Manx workers at the peak of the season.

Steam Packet worker Chris Bowen represents Nautilus, he said the point of the campaign will be to raise awareness to the public on how they stand to lose.
