The Steam Packet company says it's worried about how many Freedom of Information requests it would get, if it had to answer them in future.
It's one of the government-owned companies which was consulted about being added to the list of bodies covered by FOI legislation.
In its response, it said management was worried its high profile meant it would get a disproportionate number of requests.
And the ferry firm added it would need at least one more full-time employee to supply answers.
