The former head of the roads policing unit believes speed cameras could be used to improve the standard of driving on the Island.
Derek Flint, who served in the Isle of Man Constabulary for the best part of three decades, was discussing the issue of reckless behaviour on the roads.
Although there are restrictions in some built-up areas, there is no national speed limit.
“I think there’s a place for [speed cameras]”, said Mr Flint.
He continued: “But any use of them has got to be evidence-led.
“Making sure that the public don’t see them as just some sort of governmental cash cow is a big thing.
“It’s not about catching people out and filling the coffers for the police Christmas party, it’s about reducing casualties.”
