The Manx Labour Party's Devon Watson, who was elected to the local authority last month, took to Facebook to highlight a particularly poor property he visited this week.
Fungus was growing inside the flat, there were holes in the floor, the door was bolted using a twisted screw, and there was no hot water or light in the kitchen.
He described the landlord as exploitative and added many landlords are trying to stop minimum standards being introduced.
