Social housing tenants urged to insure property

Social housing tenants need to insure the contents of their homes.

That's the message from Douglas Borough Council after instances of fire, flooding and theft have left people unable to recoup their losses.

The council is responsible for buildings' insurance across its housing stock but it doesn't insure for personal belongings.

Councillor David Ashford says these incidents may be rare but residents need to make sure they're properly covered:
