Zoe had her funding cut, despite being at the top of her game.
Local snowboarding star Zoe Gillings has spoken to 3FM about the new measures she’s had to resort to in order to fund her costly career.
25 year old Zoe has been competing at the highest level since she was 12, competing in 2 winter Olympics.
The UK number one became another victim of the economic downturn when her funding was withdrawn by UK Sport last December.
It came as a shock to Zoe who is the only British athlete to both win a World Cup snowboard cross competition and be ranked world No 1.
Its meant she’s now having to find the money herself to pay for expensive physios, coaching and travelling around the world to various events and competitions.
In an effort to come up with the required funds she has set up www.isleofdeals.com – a website offering major discounts for customers, if a certain amount of people sign up.
She told 3FM that at no point has she considered packing in the sport, and will continue going until she has secured an Olympic Medal.
