Manx Utilities will replace manually read electricity metres with smart metres.
That's according to Dr Alex Allinson, who confirmed the news in the House of Keys earlier this week.
He believes it's the right time to bring smart metres onto the Island, in the hopes of reducing carbon emissions.
He added the Island's current metres are no longer made by manufacturers, so the board is undergoing a four-year project to replace it.
The new technology will also allow people to top up using smart phones.
