Sleepwell MD calls for more ambitious tourism targets

The Managing Director of Sleepwell Hotels, owners of The Claremont, has commented on the Isle of Man Government's recent 'Tourism Visitor Economy Strategy' and its implications for the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Mark Wilson has flagged up many positives of the review but admits a number of the Key Performance Indicators are maybe not as ambitious as they should be.

It was outlined that they would like to see an increase of 17 coaches coming to the Island by next year representing a 5% boost, still a modest target says Mr Wilson.

However, he has commended the stated KPI of improving cruise ship passenger arrival rates by 20% in the same period, saying this is clearly a significant increase.

He concedes they are challenging times ahead however he feels the sector should be aiming for more than a 4% increase in visitor volume by 2015, with regular events the easiest way to achieve this goal.
