Sentence for woman who threatened to kill police

Douglas Courthouse

An alcoholic who threatened to kill police officers with a knife during a drunken outburst has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

53-year-old Lorraine Wilkie was told the sentence was an attempt to "break the cycle" of her persistent offending.

At 6.30pm on May 27th police were called to a property in Douglas - they found the front window smashed and Wilkie "waving" a knife around.

She told officers "I'm going to stick this knife in your head and kill you" - they used PAVA spray to restrain her and she ended up striking the TV with the blade.

Her advocate told the court that due to her addiction Wilkie, who admitted a charge of affray, is locked in a cycle that "simply repeats itself" saying she doesn't offend if she doesn't drink.

Sentencing her Deemster Montgomerie said he was prepared to give her "a chance" but added "I don't do it with any great degree of confidence - there's every possibility you might fail."

He sentenced her to 10 months in custody, suspended for two years, and placed her under a supervision order as well as extending her current licensing ban.
