Facebook Group now has over 2000 supporters
The creator of a facebook group campaigning to get Sarah’s Law introduced on the Isle of Man has responded to comments made by the Home Affairs Minister.
The Department reviewed the situation in October 2010 deciding not to introduce it as it was not deemed to be appropriate or proportionate to a small place like the Isle of Man.
They said it will be up for review again in 2013.
The law which has been introduced across the UK essentially gives parents the right to have controlled access to the Sex Offenders Register if they want to check the background of an individual.
Nichola Mcharrie is responsible for the facebook group which now has 2000 members.
She is keen to impress that its introduction would have nothing to do with naming and shaming the people on the register; it’s merely a way for parents to ensure their children are well protected.
She will be meeting with Minister Earnshaw tomorrow to communicate her concerns.
