Samaritans issue message of hope and positivity

Isle of Man Samaritans are encouraging islanders to share in their message of hope and positivity.

The Samaritans are to launch a series of new resources to help inspire hope and positivity.

They include uplifting playlists, helpful advice and suggested activities and will be available from 10 September to mark World Suicide Prevention Day which falls on Friday this week.

Every year organisations and communities around the world come together to raise awareness of how to create a world where fewer people die by suicide.

A Samaritans spokesman said the past 18 months have been particularly challenging and volunteers want to help the community remain positive by asking residents what they do to help maintain their wellbeing.

He added: "With the long-term affects of the pandemic likely to be felt for several years, sharing ways of remaining hopeful could support anyone struggling to cope and be an important reminder that you do not have to do it alone-help and support is available.

"Spending time in nature, exercising, baking, listening to music and drawing are just a handful of ways to boost your mood.

IoM Samaritans Branch Director, Gary Leeming said that the challenges of the pandemic are continuing and "it's vitally important we do everything we can to help anyone who needs support".

Throughout World Suicide Prevention day, Samaritans will be sharing useful content on social media including tips fro creating hope and sharing case studies exploring the meaning of hope.

Anyone can contact Samaritans free, 24/7, 365 days a year on 116 123 or via email: jo@samaritans.org.
