Road surveys to predict future changes

Surveys are being carried out in Douglas and Onchan in a bid to improve traffic flow and road safety.

Data captured by the Department of Infrastructure will build a picture of vehicle movements -showing the volume and direction of traffic on certain routes.

Cameras will capture vehicle movements and how long they spend in each area - manual surveys will be carried out to collect information about parking, pedestrians and cyclists.

The information will be used to predict future changes to road layouts, junction designs and traffic light systems.

Motorists have been told the data is being used solely for the study and no number plate details will be stored.
