The Department of Infrastructure has applied for retrospective planning permission after a landfill site in the North of the Island should have closed two years ago
In its application, the DOI asks for permission to keep Wrights Pit North open - it should have stopped taking waste in 2019 with restoration work continuing until 2020.
The department says it wants to keep the site operating until 2030, and carry out restoration works in 2031.
Douglas-based Construction Isle of Man, which represents the building industry, says retaining the operation would benefit the sector.
