A retired NASA astronaut recently visited the James Martin Observatory in Foxdale.
Dr Jeffrey Hoffman was part of the first mission to repair the Hubble Telescope in 1993, and logged more than 1,200 hours in space throughout his career.
Visiting the Island on a cruise, he took a tour led by the ManSat Group, which included a visit to the observatory where he met members of the Astronomical Society.
Dr Hoffman says he was impressed with the observatory and looks forward to a return visit.
