A red-and-black zebra crossing has been installed in Kirk Michael on the TT course.
The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) said red asphalt has been used because white paint presents a hazard to TT riders.
A spokesman said the markings have the same legal status as standard crossings and should be treated by drivers in exactly the same way.
There are currently no zebra crossings on the TT course because of a grip risk for accelerating motorbikes.
A DOI spokesman said the crossings come in response to community demand for more pedestrian crossings in the village.
