The DOI is warning people against using a footpath which is currently closed to the public.
The path between Ballasalla and Grenaby is shut between Grey Tower and Silverdale Road because of fallen trees and parts of the riverbank being washed away.
However, the department says - despite clear signs for the closure - some residents have been using the path and whilst trying to avoid obstructions by near Scout's Glen are turning off into a field of sheep which is allowing livestock to wander around.
As a result, officials are reminding people to not use the right of way until it has formally reopened and that it will be a few months before full work can resume on removing the fallen trees and reinstating the river bank.
