Swine Flu Cases Reported in UK and Northern Ireland
The Director of Public Health Dr Parameswaren Kishore has been speaking to 3FM to get an urgent message across to pregnant women on the Island to ensure they get vaccinated against flu as soon as possible.
There have been cases of swine flu reported in the UK and Northern Ireland already, with the H1N1 strand of the virus expected to be the most prominent once again.
Although the Island is well set up to cope with another outbreak, with a large reserve of treatment medication available, the virus has been known to make pregnant women seriously ill with several deaths attributed to it over the past year.
It's especially dangerous for women in their third trimester and can cause serious respiratory problems.
With this in mind Dr Kishore is urging both pregnant women and other vulnerable groups to get the vaccine immediately.
