President of Tynwald to retire

Clare Christian wrote to Tynwald Members yesterday to inform them of her decision - she says she wanted to let them know "personally" that she won't be seeking re-election. 

 

It follows a 29-year career in Tynwald - she told her fellow politicians although "it isn't easy to quit the political arena" she's decided not to stand again. 

 

The first item of business at the July sitting of Tynwald will be to elect a new presiding officer for the next five years.
