Prescription and dental charges could change

Changes could be on the way to prescription and dental charges for older people in the Isle of Man.

Health Minister David Anderson will ask Tynwald this month to bring age related exemptions in line with the state pension age.

As it stands at the moment both men and women over the age of 60 are exempt from paying for prescriptions and over 65 for dental charges.

The changes would mean women aged 60, and men between 60 and 64, would no longer be eligible for free prescriptions.

The changes would also affect dental charges with men over 65 and women between 61 and 64 only benefiting from not paying.

The Department of Health says it means those who are still of working age are more likely to be able to pay and those who are of pension age with less income would be exempt.
