Government wants the public's views on potential reforms to adoption laws on Island.
A public consultation has been launched on a proposed new Adoption Bill, which officials say will bring Manx laws around the matter in line with best practice and highlight what must be considered when decisions are made over the adoption of a child.
They add, if approved, the new measures will reduce delays in the adoption process and would make it easier for people who have been adopted and their birth relatives to make contact with each other, should they wish to do so.
Health and Social Care Minister, David Ashford MHK, says: "The draft Adoption Bill is an important piece of legislation for the Island as it affects the youngest and most vulnerable members of our society.
"Adoption is intended to bring permanence and stability to the lives of children who may have experienced some degree of trauma and disruption.
"It is vital therefore that the Island has up-to-date adoption legislation to ensure that children being placed for adoption have the best chance of finding a new family and a permanent home."
For those wanting to put forward their thoughts, the consultation is available on the online government consultation hub or by calling Georgina Jones on 642 608 with the deadline for feedback on Friday, October 23.
