Dog theft posts on social media don't reflect police reports.
Police said they are aware of a number of posts relating to suspicious activity around dogs but only one official report has been made- and in that case, "there was no intention to take the dog in question".
Anyone with personal experience of suspicious activity is being urged to get in contact with police with as much detail as possible,
A spokesman said: "If there is an emerging problem this will allow us to build a picture of what may be happening and take action if it’s needed.
"Remember not everything on social media is posted with good intentions or indeed even true but as always we would advise you all to be security conscious around your homes and vehicles"
