Police are warning of a new cold calling scam.
Authorities say it's come to light this week, and resulted in people being defrauded of funds from their bank account.
The cold caller pretends to be from Manx telecom, tells the recipient there is an error message on your internet router and due to poor internet service, you are eligible for a refund.
Officers say you will then be encouraged to use your card reader and enter your PIN number on your computer; however, prior to doing this, you will be asked to allow the caller to remotely access your computer to fix your internet speed, It is at this time that the caller will clone your card details.
The constabulary adds this is quite a sophisticated and well researched scam so please remain mindful of cold calls and vigilant as to whom you are talking to.
