Police warn of 'free holiday' phone offers

One person had £800 taken from their account

Several reports have been filed to the Police concerning unsolicited phone calls telling the individual they have won a free holiday.

The caller then tells the winner all they need is to pay associated administration and tax charges; in one case a resident has found their bank account debited of £800.

It is not yet known if the calls are originating from a genuine company, however a warning has gone out to the public not to disclose any personal information over the phone, especially credit card details.

The message is, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Crime Prevention Officer Mike Radcliffe has urged anybody who has received such a call to contact the police immediately.
