Leaving clothes near water can cause unnecessary concern.
That's the message from the northern neighbourhood policing team, as we see a spike in people swimming outdoors throughout Summer.
However, officers say leaving clothing at the waters edge, or around the harbour, can cause an unnecessary concern regarding missing people.
In this instance, it could instigate a multi-agency search with our local RNLI.
As a result, people are asked to take their clothing home after swimming and to remain aware of weather and tidal conditions.
