The Manx constabulary has received reports of people being scammed when buying puppies.
In a post on social media, the force warned against finding the newest addition to your family on Facebook.
They are urging animal lovers to find out if sellers are genuine, and not to hand over money until the animal has been seen in person.
If you've spotted a scam, you can report it to the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance, and contact your bank if you've lost money.
