Police force emphasising firework safety message

This weekend will see the Island celebrate Bonfire night along with the rest of the UK.

Since last week its been allowed for over 18's to hold fireworks displays in private without first notifying the Department of Home Affairs; the bulk of the parties are expected to be taking place over the weekend.

The police and the office of fair trading launched a crackdown on retailers to ensure they were not selling to under 18s, with strict punishments in place for anyone caught breaking this law.

Each year sees a downward trend in firework related incidents, however the Police force have said they will not be resting on their laurels with an increased presence on the streets over the weekend.
