A 58 year old man has imprisoned for sexually abusing his four step children.
The boy and three girls were aged from 4 to 17 years old when the offences were committed between 1974 and 1984.
Detective Inspector Phil Shimmin said the man showed no guilt throughout his trial.
The male, who lives in the south of the Island, was convicted of 20 counts of Indecent assault, 9 counts of Buggery and 2 counts of Rape against the 4 victims.
He has been sentenced to 18 years in jail, but hasn't been named to protect the victims identities.
DI Shimmin has spent 24 years working with such cases and told 3FM said this is undoubtedly the worst case of sustained sexual abuse upon children in his career with the police. (audio above)
He said each victim has stood up in court and recounted the abuse they suffered and the threats they were subjected to, in order to ensure their compliance and silence. Only recently did they feel able to tell the police what had happened to them when they were children.
Police are crediting the victims as it takes an enormous amount of bravery to relive such trauma from years ago and officers want to pay tribute to them for their extraordinary courage in coming forward and giving evidence at trial.
