Police say due to not having a license, an event in the south of the Island couldn't feature live music at the weekend.
The Constabulary says Castletown Festival organisers were told they needed a license, but still failed to apply for one.
Events run for philanthropic purposes can avoid being licensed, and earlier this year it was announced that the Castletown Festival didn't fall under this category as it has in previous years.
The authorities say the decision taken by the committee was ''entirely avoidable'' and the event's entertainment could have gone ahead if a different approach was considered.
