Police say reports that the Pubwatch scheme couldn't continue because of data protection legislation are incorrect.
The constabulary is reassuring the public the initiative continues to operate, adding it fully supports the licensing trade and will carry on working with them to make pubs and cafes safe places to visit.
The force says it and the licensing trade recently reviewed the scheme and recognised some practices needed to be tightened to comply with existing laws, including around data protection.
A spokesperson from the All Island Pubwatch Committee says the initiative enjoys a good relationship with the Police which works well towards creating safe drinking environments.
