The issue of marine plastic pollution 'remains high on the global agenda' according to the acting Ecosystem Policy Manager at the Department of Environment, Food & Agriculture.
Dr Richard Selman's comments came with the Isle of Man joining an initiative by the World Network of Island Coastal Biosphere Reserves aimed at tackling the problem.
He and other representatives from the Island attended the EuroMAB international conference in Dublin earlier this month which brought to together the worlds biospheres.
The event which took place between April 1 and 5 was attended by 300 delegates from 30 countries across Europe and North America.
