Plans to preserve wildflowers in Port St Mary

Port St Mary Commissioners have been working with the Manx Wildlife Trust and DEFA to preserve the Kallow Point area and its wildflowers.

Many species of flower have been identified there but they are now in decline due to heavy footfall, so commissioners have cordoned off the area and will wait until June to cut the grass to protect them.

They will also be sewing appropriate grass seed within the next fortnight and be hand picking stones and rocks.

While this work takes place, the public are asked to use the paths provided and keep off the restricted areas so it can 'continue to flourish.'
