Peel Ports says it hopes to make Heysham the UK's first ever net-zero port as the first green shipping corridor is set up in the Irish Sea.
NatPower Marine says it'll provide shore power plugs at the Lancashire port used by the Steam Packet Company as it aims to reduce shipping emissions in the Irish Sea.
It's estimated the £10 million project will cut 10,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions from routes between England and Northern Ireland each year.
The Peel Group is owned by the family of Island billionaire John Whittaker.
